Bebrite's 5 Step Window Cleaning System:
|
| With any job preparation
is vital to the success of the job. Proper preparation will save
time and money and will demonstrate to the customer a professional
approach. It shows!
Large Glass Areas
- Window dressings, drapes, shades, blinds, and curtains, should
be held back, or removed from interfering with the job.
- Preferably, wash window frames and sills using Bebrite
Total Washroom and a damp cloth. Then dry them. Alternatively,
window frames and sills should be brushed down.
- All the glass to be cleaned should first be wiped over with
a damp cloth to get rid of the worst dirt.
- Starting with the top windowpanes and using an appropriate-size
Bebrite recommended washer, wash each pane starting at the top
of the pane ensuring that the total glass area is soapy, taking
the squeegee blade squeegee across the pane from the top with
a swirling motion, wiping the excess water of the blade with
a cloth and making sure to reach each corner. Once you have
covered the total window wipe the squeegee and windowsill to
remove excess water and detergent.
- Bebrite Neutral Cleaner is to be used in
your maxi bucket (window bucket) at the rate of 30mls per bucket
(6litres)

Mirrors & Picture Glass
Mirrors
1. The most effective method of cleaning mirrors is with Bebrite
Crystal Clear. Spray onto the surface and buff with a clean
lint free cloth, ensuring that you reach the corners.
2. Use only Bebrite Crystal Clear diluted as recommended.
Do not use too much of the cleaning concentrate. Strong cleaning
solutions can reduce the effectiveness of the cleaning result.
Picture Glass.
1. To keep water from getting inside the frame of pictures and framed
mirrors, hold a piece of heavy paper or cardboard against the frame
on the inside edge.
Bebrite's Successful Window Cleaning:
Point 1
Wash Windowsills and Frames: On the exterior (or on unusually dirty
interiors), wash the windowsill and the frame of window before you
do the glass. If it's particularly grimy, keep a separate bucket
of Bebrite Total Washroom Cleaning Solution and
sponge so you don't soil the glass-cleaning solution and sponge.
If you find grey or black mildew spots on your window frames, you
should consider having a Bebrite licensed Franchisee professionally
apply Bebrite® Anti Microbial Treatment which
will kill the mildew. Should you use any form of household bleach
damage to the window frames and painted surfaces may well occur.
Point 2
[Homes] Mix Bebrite Neutral Cleaner cleaning solution
according to the varying instructions and dependant on the job conditions.
Apply with a sponge and scrub. If necessary, use a razor scraper
to remove paint, sap, or other stubborn dirt. To avoid streaks,
don't clean windows when the sun is shining on them.
To avoid hard-water deposits on glass, don't let your lawn sprinkler
reach your windows. You can remove these spots and streaks by following
the steps already detailed above.
Point 3
First Drying Stroke: Using an appropriate-size Bebrite squeegee,
make your first stroke across the top of the pane, with the blade
angled so you clear the top two inches of the glass. Wipe the blade
clean with your chamois or cloth. Wipe up drips at the bottom of
the window with a damp sponge.
If you don't want to use a squeegee, you can use Bebrite Crystal
Clear and wipe the windows with a lint-free cloth, imitation chamois,
or crumpled newspapers. Keep one dry for the final drying and polishing.
Point 4
Complete Drying: Starting on one side of the just dried area at
the top of the window, draw the squeegee down to the bottom of the
glass, dry the blade and repeat. The trick with a squeegee is to
always start in the dry area and overlap each stroke. When your
chamois or cloth gets dirty, wash it out in the Bebrite
Neutral Cleaner cleaning solution and wring it out well.
To clean the exterior of double-hung windows working from indoors,
reach over the sash to make your first horizontal pass with the
squeegee blade in full contact with the glass; then reposition the
sash so you can complete the pane with vertical passes as described
in Step 4.
Point 5
Polish to a High Shine: One of the best ways to make use of old
newspapers is to polish windows with them. Crumple a page or two
up like a rag and briskly buff the window for a shiny, streak-free
window. As a bonus, newsprint leaves a dirt-resistant film so your
windows will stay clean longer
Cleaning
Aluminium Window Frames
If painted, use a solution of Bebrite Neutral Cleaner.
Always rinse off solution. Wipe off excess water with a dry cloth.
Do not use strong cleaners or scouring powder, as these will damage
the paint. If you plan to clean window frames, do it before cleaning
window glass so solution does not spot glass panes.
Clear or coloured anodised aluminium resists weathering, and can
be washed with Bebrite Neutral Cleaner, safely.
The same will apply to any pained surface, like painted frames.
Solvent cleaners like Bebrite Solvit Orange can
be used to remove grease spots from anodised frames. Never use abrasives
on either anodised or painted surfaces, as they will scratch it.
Bare, unfinished aluminium gradually weathers and turns grey. It
forms its own oxide coating, which protects it (A coat of clear
lacquer will prevent this.) In early stages of weathering, washing
with Bebrite Neutral Cleaner will restore brightness.
If you want to restore brightness when it has weathered more, stronger
cleaners or mild abrasives will be needed. If in any doubt contact
Bebrite Head Office and ask that a professional Franchisee advise
you, free of any obligation. It is always best to test a hidden
spot to be sure it will work satisfactorily.
Do not clean aluminium if it is too hot to touch, or if temperature
is above 22c. Always remove all traces of cleaner thoroughly, with
water rinsing, or, if a solvent, by wiping. Avoid excessive use
of abrasives, which leaves permanent scratches. Badly weathered
window frames may be washed with Bebrite Neutral Cleaner,
rinsed thoroughly, and painted.
Through windows you see the outside world, so it is important that
you keep them clean. Most people will let the dirt settle on their
windows all year round until the filth becomes unbearable, but this
is not an acceptable way to maintain these essential assets. Instead
of giving in to dirty windows and the weather build up that comes
